Daisy Mathias was born in 1940 and grew up spending as much time as she could outdoors. She was a prolific writer her entire life, turning her hand to both poetry and prose. For the last 15 years, she hosted her radio program ‘Poetry à la Carte’ on WMUA 91.1 FM, Amherst, reading poetry and interviewing local poets. She also worked with writers and poets from around New England on projects, and chaired the annual WriteAngles conference committee. Home, nature, and family were her touchstones in life, and those topics naturally found their way into her poetry. Her poems are celebrations, some filled with mystery, others wrought with wry humor. Her poems are one of the glorious gifts she left us. When not at her desk, Daisy could most often be found amongst the trees and flowers, for whom she had a special affinity, usually with a feline companion close at hand.
